Welcome to Kingfisher Class
Kingfisher class, a mixed Year 3 and 4 class comprising 20 children, has Mrs Sneyd as the class teacher, and Mrs Adams, who works 9 am – 12 noon each day, and Mrs Williams, who works 9.30 am – 2.30 pm each day, as teaching assistants.
During our class topic this half term, we will be studying ‘The Stone Age’ trying to answer the key question: ‘Could you have survived in The Stone Age?’
Our class novel, from which our reading into writing will come, is ‘Stig of the dump’. As well as this, we will be reading ‘Stone Age Boy’ and ‘How to wash a woolly mammoth’.
The class will be ‘going back in time’ during their trip to The Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre later in January for a ‘Hands-on Stone Age day’ when the children will enjoy soil painting; spear throwing; planning a hunt; and using fire bows! In addition, they will visit the woolly mammoth skeleton exhibition and understand what it takes to be a palaeontologist.
Homework will be given out on a Wednesday and will expected to be handed in on a Monday morning. Spelling tests will be on a Monday morning and Froggy Maths will be undertaken on a Friday.
For the first half term, PE will consist of dance on a Monday afternoon 1-2 pm and gymnastics on a Tuesday afternoon 1-2 pm. PE kit is required to be in school every day so, that should a change in the timetable occur, the children are prepared.
All the children need a water bottle, in school, which is filled with fresh water on a daily basis and a named waterproof coat, ideally with a hood, so that children can go out to play whatever the weather!
Here’s to a great Spring Term 2019!
